MAGNESIUM OXIDE

Hydrometallurgy - Mining

Caustic Calcined Magnesite (CCM, Magnesium Oxide) is either used to precipitate metals such as Ni, Co and U out of the acid leach solutions in certain hydrometallurgical production processes or for the purification of such solutions.

Heating Elements

Electrical grade magnesia (EGM) powder is used as electrical insulation filler between the coil and the outer sheath in heating elements. EGM has good thermal conductivity and high electrical resistivity at elevated temperatures.

Rubber and Plastics

MgO (Magnesium Oxide, Calcined Magnesite) is used in the Rubber and Plastic applications as an acid scavenger, scorch retarder or curing agent during the cross linking of several rubber compounds containing halogens or nitrile groups.

Magnesium Compounds

Magnesium Oxide (MgO, Calcined Magnesite) is a magnesium source for the production of pharmaceutical and food additives as well as compounds for technical applications.

Mineral Insulated Cables

Mineral insulated cable is made by placing copper rods inside a circular copper tube and filling the intervening spaces with dry magnesium oxide powder. The overall assembly is then pressed between rollers to reduce its diameter and increase its length.

Catalysts

Natural MgO (Magnesium Oxide, Calcined Magnesite) has a high melting point, stable structure and good mechanical properties all of which are desired properties for catalyst supports.

Fuel additives

MgO (Magnesium Oxide, Caustic Calcined Magnesite) is used in the production of fuel and lubricant additives and specifically in the production of over-based magnesium sulphonates and carboxylates which serve as ash and corrosion management detergents (capture and pacification of vanadium, nickel and sulphur compounds) in gas turbines and motors.

ORGANIC PEROXIDES

Organic Peroxides: They are chemicals which are accelerator or heat activated and regulate vinyl ester resins and polyester resins gel and curing.  It starts cross binding reactions between reactive monomers like resin and styrene. It is active in at room temperature for setting methyl ethyl, ketone peroxides (MEK-P), polyesters and vinyl esters.  It is recommended for curing productions with heat like Tert Butyl Peroxybenzoat (TBPB), pultrusion and hot-press. Benzoyl peroxide (BPO), is active on 80 °C and for hardening systems, it is used with amine accelerator at room temperature.  Acetyl acetone peroxide (AAP), is preferable for RTM applications with allocation period from quick pattern.
